About Dr. T R Anantharamu
Dr. T. R. Anantharamu is a former senior geologist, who served at the Geological Survey of India and is a renowned science communicator in Karnataka. A unique feature of his work is that all his outreach initiatives have been in the language of the land, namely Kannada.
One of the earliest science communicators to realize the need for bringing uniformity in the use of novel scientific and technical terms in Kannada, he teamed up with two of his colleagues and brought out a 900 page (14,000 words) glossary of technical terms in Kannada, a first of its kind in the vernacular. It contributed enormously to the accuracy, intelligibility and fidelity of translations of scientific literature from other languages into Kannada.
